배고프지만... 주말에 꼭 해야 할 일은...

바로 Homework...

 

I am going to pick out the first sentence in that song. "I was standing on a train platform in a foreign land." I feel some lonesomeness to read this sentence. And one poetry is reminded to me.

 

One of my favorite poet is Yun Dongju. As you know, Korean name is different from American name. Yun is his last name or family name. He was born in 1917 and he was dead on February, 16, 1945 in Japan. Our Korea was a colony by Japan from 1910 until 1945. At that time, lots of Korean educated people had participated in the independence movement. 

Anyway, his poetries have a lot of lonesome, nostalgia, and sadness of living in tyranny, etc. My favorite poetry which he wrote is 'The Night of Counting Stars'. It has so many beautiful words. I am going to introduce some words in this poetry. "..... One star to reminiscence, one star to love, one star to lonesome, one star to yearning, one star to poem, and one star to mother, mother..... My mother, I am speaking the beautiful words to every star....."

When I read this poetry, I felt as if I was standing alone under the starry night like Van Gogh's painting. He wrote many beautiful poetry, but he was dead in Hukuoka prison in Japan. He had gone to Tokyo to enter the university after graduating a college in Korea in 1942.  However he was arrested as having participated in the independence movement. His factor of death was not proved exactly. Many people gussed that he might taken lots of tortures or an experiment on a living creature. He was only twenty seven years old. At that time, Japanese politicians and police were insane, I think. It might be they had involved in the World War second after attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. They had been more cruel after taking the War.

 

Many Korean people feel sad for his tragic death in a foreign land, but his works were so beautiful and impressive. We have many poets and independence activists at that time like him. I am proud of them and their works. And I feel sorry for how they were suffered in a foreign land. If they didn't do that, would our Korea become independented? I asked by myself.
